NORTENT—because great adventures deserve great gear.
Skjul is not your ordinary bivi. It's designed with thoughtful features that enhance comfort, breathability, and ease of use, setting it apart from traditional bivis.
Big opening with dual zippers
-
Easy entry and exit: Unlike many bivis that require you to crawl through a small opening, Skjul features a large front opening equipped with two zippers—one on the side and one on the top. This design allows for effortless entry and exit, making it significantly more user-friendly, especially in harsh weather conditions when speed and efficiency are crucial.
Breathable fabric
-
High breathability: Skjul is constructed from a breathable fabric that boasts a remarkable breathability rating of 15,000 g/m². This is crucial for reducing condensation buildup inside the bivi. Condensation can lead to a damp and uncomfortable sleeping environment, but Skjul's fabric works for as low as possible moisture management, keeping you dry and comfortable.
-
Quality airflow: Breathable fabric is not just about moisture control; it also ensures that the air quality inside the bivi remains fresh. This is particularly important in a confined space where poor ventilation can lead to stuffiness and discomfort.
Equipped with an air valve
-
Fresh air circulation: To further enhance airflow, Skjul is equipped with an air valve. This feature ensures a continuous supply of fresh air into the bivi, preventing the buildup of carbon dioxide and maintaining a healthy, breathable environment inside.
Important notice about condensation: Condensation inside a bivy sack, or bivi, is a common challenge, especially in humid weather. Despite that our bivi having built-in ventilation and breathable fabric designed to minimize moisture build-up, the small enclosed space and environmental factors make it nearly impossible to eliminate condensation entirely when the humidity in the air is 100% (when raining).
When it rains, the surrounding air's humidity levels rise significantly. This moist air seeps into the bivy, and when combined with the warm air exhaled by the person inside, creates an environment where water vapor readily condenses on the cooler surfaces of the fabric despite that the air ventilates through the fabric. The small air volume inside a bivy exacerbates this issue. Unlike a tent, which offers more space and ventilation options in addition to a inner tent, a bivy’s compact size means there is less room for air circulation and a greater likelihood of the moisture from breath and sweat condensing on the inner surfaces.
Opening up the bivy to enhance ventilation is not always an option during rain, as this would let water in, defeating the purpose of the shelter. Consequently, even with advanced btreathable fabric and design features aimed at reducing condensation, achieving a completely dry interior in high humidity and wet conditions remains a significant challenge. The trade-off for the bivy's lightweight and compact design is this persistent battle against interior dampness.
Mosquito netting
-
Enjoy the outdoors: Skjul’s front opening is equipped with mosquito netting. On those clear, fine nights, you can open up the bivi and enjoy the stars without worrying about insects. This adds an extra layer of versatility and comfort to your camping experience.
Hooped design with one pole
-
Spacious Iiterior: Skjul is designed as a hooped bivi, meaning it includes a single pole that creates a hoop structure. This not only keeps the fabric off your face, providing more room inside but also enhances overall comfort. The hooped design offers a more spacious and less claustrophobic feel compared to traditional flat bivis.
-
Quick setup: The single pole design also contributes to the quick and easy setup of Skjul. You can have your shelter ready in no time, allowing you to spend more time enjoying your surroundings and less time struggling with complex tent poles.
Skjul is engineered for the modern adventurer who demands more from their gear. With its large, easily accessible opening, highly breathable fabric, integrated air valve, and mosquito netting, Skjul stribes for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience even thoug this is a very small shelter The innovative hooped design provides ample space and keeps the fabric away from your face. You have the option to use the pole or not, providing the flexibility to adapt to your preferences
